Cost of living in Kigali.

We avoid hard numbers that go stale. Instead, here are the categories that shape a monthly budget, and what tends to move each one.

Housing
Usually the largest monthly cost. Furnished monthly apartments often start around $1,000/month where available, and rise with size and neighborhood.
Transport
Moto-taxis, ride apps, and private drivers are common. A private driver costs more than daily ride-hailing but adds reliability.
Food & groceries
Local markets are affordable; imported goods and Western-style supermarkets cost more. Eating out ranges widely.
Internet & SIM
Prepaid SIM data and home Wi-Fi are widely available. Confirm current plans and prices with the telecom.
Coworking
Several coworking spaces offer day passes and monthly memberships, useful if you work remotely.
Helpers & errands
Household help, cleaning, and errands are commonly arranged. Rates vary, ask locally before committing.
Utilities
Electricity (often prepaid), water, and gas. Ask what a furnished lease already includes.
Leisure
Cafes, gyms, restaurants, and weekend trips. Budget depends mostly on lifestyle.

A note on numbers

Costs vary by neighborhood, lifestyle, and lease length. Treat any figure you read online as a rough starting point and confirm current prices locally before you commit.
